Project 365 And Blogging Hiatus Until Sunday...

Yeah, you read that right. In line with my thesis defense, the last thing I'd tell you is I'm opening for the Itchyworms on Tuesday night in 70's Bistro.

See you after my thesis is signed, sealed and delivered!

A Pat On The Back...

.:Refreshed:.

Slept for thirteen hours yesterday. Couldn’t believe it, really. I just went out at 6PM, and woke up at 7AM the next day. Wow.

It’s the perfect way to reward myself for having (finally) submitted my thesis hard copies yesterday. Yeah!

.:Sunday’s Surprise Party:.

I hosted the latter half of Bubba’s (Jane’s beau.) surprise birthday party, and it was quite an awesome night. From Rockeoke (Yes, I sang “What’s Up”!) to Jane and Bubba having a duet live, to seeing Stanley Chi perform again after a long time of being delinquent from Spicy Fingers, it was all good, really.

Carlos, Hannah, and Vince were awesome company. We had a grand time, especially when Carlos and I decided to start doing some magic for Vince, who was just floored by the both of us. Ultimately, the night went really well, from the food to the company, and I’m glad Bubba liked the surprise Jane put together for him. With a girlfriend like Jane, I guess you might say Bubba is one helluva lucky guy. I don’t think I’d ever have someone pull something as big as that for me, after all.

.:Instant Homecoming:.

Last Saturday, I found myself with nowhere to go after a successful show in Woodrose. I was about to just head to Megamall to play some Street Fighter IV when I discovered that the annual alumni homecoming was happening on the same night. It wasn’t too hard to figure out that the appeal of going to my high school alma mater, Don Bosco Technical College, proved to be too much for me to resist.

So I went there and discovered there were only about five of my batch who bothered to go to the homecoming. Despite that, it was fun. Catching up with Luis Geronimo had to be one of the most surprising moments of my life, not because we were pseudo –rivals in high school, but because apparently, we both happened to personally know Manolo Quezon. I have to admit, I couldn’t help but say “small world” when I found out.

The alumni homecoming was definitely fun, although I didn’t feel too compelled to stick around for long. Pauleen Luna was hosting it, the theme was all about wrestling, and some people I haven’t seen in ages, namely Mrs. Etta Benessa, Mr. Narciso Mefragata, and Mr. Sixto Antiga were in attendance. I must say, I felt a lump in my throat as I saw them.

I think I should make this a personal annual tradition for me. In fact, against my better judgment, I started seeking out my classmates from Zone 40. Maybe a decade away from it all has given us rose-colored visions of how things used to be, but I genuinely am proud of having been a Bosconian. That much cannot be denied.

Thrown A Curveball...

.:Thrown A Curveball:.

Last night’s weekly standup comedy at Sidebar El Pueblo turned out to be one of the best sets I’ve ever done in a long while. Considering that I hosted the standup night and the comedians that night were all on fire (Especially Alex Calleja, as expected.), and when it was my turn to do my set, I had a pretty unique curveball thrown at me during my National University bit, as two people actually applauded when I asked if anyone came from NU.

Turns out, neither two people, Trixie or Anna, were really from NU. I was had, but in the end, it made for a more organic set as I had to maneuver myself out of that sticky scenario as deftly as I could, and I actually did fairly well doing that.

Ultimately, after a great round from the comics, we made a bunch of new friends from that table. From Elgin to Vanessa to Trixie, we really found people who appreciated our work. It’s always great to have a shot in the arm like that.

In any case, that was how we spent our Wednesday night, and today’s a bit non-happening as far as work goes in the office, so yeah, it’s all good.

.:Thesis FTW:.

That’s what I’m doing, explaining why I’m doing so little blogging lately.

My Thesis Affects Everything...

.:Just Because I Think It’s Cool...:.

Here’s a photo of last Monday’s mini-reunion, featuring a good chunk of the former air staff of 939KCFM...

This would’ve been interesting if everyone really showed up...

.:DK Today:.

The gang’s all here (Except for Pom, that is.) in RT right now, as Marf, Cleo, Logan, and yours truly are kicking it in the morning, and Logan, in a sweat-inducing moment, checked out on the air what the other radio stations are up to, just to prove a point.

It’s been an interesting morning so far, and considering how I’m still a bit of a zombie after hanging out with the comics in Alchemy last night and even singing a couple of songs during Mellow Manila’s second set, Logan’s early-morning antics definitely woke me right back up.

For some reason, the Chowking commercial actually turned out to be a point of discussion as well, and it was just weird when interspersed with news about a Singaporean woman who bit off more than she can chew.

This morning, we also learn that Logan happens to have a B/V problem. He had a difficult time saying “cabin fever”, which certainly wasn’t the least bit of an issue for Marf. I wonder how he’d fare talking about the Bang Bus, then?

Just now, the topic of the infamous chindogu came up, proving once again how crazy Japan really is. This was followed by Logan almost salivating as he described in loving detail how much he was craving for longganisang Lucban with garlic rice and sukang pinakurat to boot. Hades, I don’t even eat longganisa, yet I ended up just being enthralled by Logan’s enthusiastic and delectable description of the meal.

And because we’re crazy like that, we ended up discussing how a magician would make a unique wedding proposal, and I suggested making a ring materialize from a computer screen into reality as a way of transitioning into the proposal. Admittedly, it was crazy cheesy, but whaddaheck, right? If it works, then it works, no matter how sappy it could be.

.:Meetings Galore:.

Work has been heavy for me this past week. I’m loaded up to my ears in meetings and stuff, not to mention the fact that I need to cough up 25 more pages for my thesis word count to look presentable when I submit it...

It's Been Weeks... Poetry, And My Show On Sunday...

.:Reminder...:.

My show is gonna be this Sunday, around 4-6 PM, at Market! Market! Hope to see you guys there. Do drop in and say "hi"!

.:Walls Closing In:.

I'm doing what I can to write my thesis, but at the rate I'm going, it does look like I will have to finish it come first sem, rather than the goal of completing it this summer.

I'm just buried right now...

.:A Literary Attempt:.

What Else Is Left To Do?
by Kel

I am not a dancer, so I cannot dance
To the saddest music that could rend your heart
Each step I would take, each move I would make
All lies to myself I'd have one last chance

I am not a musician, so I cannot compose
A dirge that will touch and melt your heart
Each note hides a tear, each word hides a fear
A prayer bereft of all but woes

I am not an actor, so I cannot star
In the lead role in this film to win your heart
Each scene is a prayer, each take one more dare
In the hope that you could heal this scar

Yet I am not a poet, so this poem that I write
Will never hold any place in your heart
For I am merely a man whose sorrows cannot hide
And I can never make this right

And so, the end.
For sorrow that cannot be sung, that cannot be danced
Misery that cannot be staged, that cannot be written
Is sadness that leads to one's self-made grave
